On Tuesday 21st June, the Ethnographic Park & Botanical Garden Pirámides de Güímar will celebrate one of its most anticipated days, the Summer Solstice. The doors of the Park will open at 18:30 hours. Once the attending public is assembled, it will be escorted to the main pyramid complex where they will be able to observe, weather-permitting, how the main axis of the pyramid complex is aligned with the point on the horizon where the sun sets on such a key date. In addition, the perspective from this axis usually allows the observation of a "Double Sunset". This curious phenomenon attracted the attention of researchers from the Canarian Institute of Astrophysics, who discovered and confirmed the alignment of these pyramid structures with the sun during the summer and winter solstices. As every year, the organization will provide the public with special glasses to protect the view.
Due to security and logistics measures, as well as to the growing public interest in this event, the capacity will be limited. Therefore, access to the public will be allowed on a ‘first come first served’ basis, until the maximum capacity of 300 people is completed.
