The ‘Expeditions room’, annexed to the Auditorium, is an area dedicated to Heyerdahl’s transoceanic expeditions, including replicas of the balsa wood and reed vessels he used, such as the Kon Tiki (Pacific Ocean, 1947), Ra & Ra II (Atlantic Ocean, 1969 – 1970) and Tigris (Indian Ocean, 1977/8).
His famous Kon Tiki expedition, in which he crossed the Pacific Ocean in 101 days, earned him an Academy Award for the best documentary film. A large-scale replica of the Ra II can also be seen at the entrance of the Auditorium.
