A CANARIAN RAVINE AND ITS FLORA

Sustainable Garden

The Sustainable Garden of Pirámides de Güímar, a result of collaboration with the University of La Laguna, recreates the watercourse of a Canarian ravine. In addition to exhibiting the plant species characteristic of these environments, its stream is home to European eels, the only freshwater fish present in the Canary Islands, obtained through collaboration with the Fundación Neotrópico. The rich local biodiversity that it integrates gives it its educational character, an aspect that promotes awareness about the conservation of the island’s nature. This space illustrates various facets of sustainability, including environmental, economic, and social aspects. Thanks to these efforts, the park received the “Best General Sustainable Practice 2021” award from Turismo de Tenerife.

Tropicarium

Visitante observando plantas carnívoras y orquídeas en el jardín de Pirámides de Güímar.

The Tropicarium Garden of Pirámides de Güímar is a botanical project resulting from collaboration with the University of La Laguna. This space was designed to host the research and scientific study section of the Pirámides de Güímar Botanical Garden. As a laboratory, it is not usually open to visitors, although we occasionally allow small groups to enjoy short visits. If you are lucky, you may have the chance to visit the Tropicarium, where you can marvel at the ingenious survival strategies of orchids and carnivorous plants in a tropical environment, and discover why these exotic species captivated Charles Darwin. Check at our reception for available times to enjoy this unique botanical experience.
