THE MOST SPECIAL AND AWAITED DAY IN PÍRAMIDES DE GÜÍMAR
The SUMMER SOLSTICE
Each year, around the date of the summer solstice, the Pirámides de Güímar Ethnographic Park offers the opportunity to witness one of its most unique phenomena: the double sunset.
FIRST BEHIND A MOUNTAIN AND THEN BEHIND A HILL...
The sun sets twice
From the main complex, the sun first disappears behind the peak of a mountain and, minutes later, briefly reappears before setting definitively on the horizon. This optical effect, surprising to those witnessing it for the first time, is related to the orientation of the pyramidal structures and their relationship with the natural surroundings.
Astronomical Alignment and Discovery
This phenomenon was studied and documented by researchers from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias — Juan Antonio Belmonte, Juan Antonio Aparicio, and César Esteban — who analyzed the alignment of the structures in relation to solar cycles.
To mark this occasion, the park organizes a special event each year around the summer solstice, giving visitors the chance to experience this moment in a unique setting. Throughout June, we publish all updated information about dates, times, and capacity on our social media channels, so we recommend staying tuned if you wish to attend.
